HOW TO connect wireless NCI to AP via CLI

Hi, i use madwifi as the wireless NCI driver, and it works fine in UBUNTU, but now for some reason i wanna know how to connect to a specific AP via wireless tools such as "iwconfig, iwlist" in CLI.

i type "iwconfig" then i see the infomations below.

lo no wireless extensions.
eth0 no wireless extensions.
wifi0 no wireless extensions.

Link Quality=0/70 Signal level=-96 dBm Noise level=-96 dBm
Rx invalid nwid:412246 Rx invalid crypt:0 Rx invalid frag:0
Tx excessive retries:0 Invalid misc:0 Missed beacon:0

i do this follow these steps:

step1:ifconfig ath0 up
step2:iwconfig ath0 essid "wireless"

Re: HOW TO connect wireless NCI to AP via CLI

Aditya Bhave
Can you do a iwconfig ath0 and verify that the ESSID you specified  does
indeed get set. Typically, you would use iwconfig to specify all the
parameters and then do a "sudo ifconfig ath0 up" to commit those changes

Another thing to look out for is whether the AP has been configured to
be a DHCP server. If not, youll have to set up the IP on the client
manually.
Does the AP also require some security key?

regards,
Aditya Bhave
